The video is suitable for our group’s interactive learning resource in terms of its clear introduction of cyber security, cyber crimes and cyber attacks, and advice for users to protect their privacy in today’s digital world.
In what way are they likely to respond to the video on their own, e.g., make notes, do an activity, or think about the topic (learner-generated)?
The video is more like a presentation of the chosen topics and does not contain inherent interaction design. However, students are still likely to respond to the video by taking notes on new terms they have learnt, including cyber security, cyber terrorisms, malware, etc. By taking and organizing notes, students can have a better understanding about the course content. Also, since cyber security is closely connected to each of us in this digital world. Students might easily feel resonate with the topic and begin to reflect on whether their information and data are exposed unsafely. Therefore, it is highly possible for them to begin check their computer or social media settings. It is, in fact, an effective way to engage with the topic.
What activity could you suggest that they do after they have watched the video (designed)? What type of knowledge or skill would that activity help develop? What medium or technology would students use to do the activity?
Since our group’s learning interactive resource focuses on the use of Instagram and the importance of digital privacy, my suggestion of one activity is to either adjust their privacy settings in their original Instagram account or create a new account to explore the privacy features of the app. Then, they are required to write a short reflection max.180 words, addressing what they did with the privacy settings and what they learned about digital privacy. This activity will help develop their understanding of online privacy management and the practical skills needed to protect their personal information in a digital context. Students can send their writing through Instagram Direct Message to our teaching team’s official Instagram account.
How would students get feedback on the activity that you set? What medium or technology would they and/or you use for getting and giving feedback on their activity?
Students will get feedback directly through Instagram Direct Messages from our teaching team. This medium allows our teaching team to provide quick responses. Additionally, for students who want to have a more detailed discussion, they can always schedule a Zoom meeting for extra help. Zoom meeting allows students to be more engaged in learning interactions.
How much work for you would that activity cause? Would the work be both manageable and worthwhile? Could the activity be scaled for larger numbers of students?
The workload for a short reflection should be manageable for learners with different learning background. It would not cause too much work for students. This activity is worthwhile because it asks students to engage with the topic of digital privacy. More importantly, since they are required to adjust their own accounts or create new ones, they have gained practical skills that can be applied to real world issues. If a larger number of students are expected, they can work in groups to make the activity more manageable.
